Elementary Chinese 1

The aim of the course is to help participants learn some basic knowledge of Chinese, and practice daily dialogues. The teaching approach of the course is interactive and mainly focused on building students’ listening, speaking skills, and expands the ability of reading and writing Chinese characters.

We will also provide some knowledge of Chinese culture while we are doing the elementary Chinese teaching.

The course is designed for those who have completed the Elementary Chinese Level 1 course or who have:

  • Completed more than 40 learning hours,
  • Know about 100 basic Chinese characters, 200 basic Chinese words, 
  • Passed HSK level 1.

Its primary aim and purpose is to provide a better understanding of, and familiarity with basic Chinese language and culture. You will pay more attention on simplified characters and enrich your Chinese vocabulary. Sentence structures will be introduced and used gradually in every day conversation.

Intermediate Chinese 1

  • Known about 200 basic Chinese characters, 400 basic Chinese words,
  • Passed HSK level 2.

Placement interview: required (except for continuing students with advancement approval from previous class)

   The course seeks to develop language learners’ integrated skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking at the intermediate level, with a special focus on reading and writing.

  1. Practical Skills

Upon completion of this course, you will:

  • Be able to conduct conversations in Chinese on range of topics
  • Be able to make a comment on one’s action or behaviors
  • Be able to express your emotion, opinion
  • Be able to consult other’s opinion & make suggestion
  • Be able to ask for reasons & explain reasons
  • Be able to remind & urge somebody
  • Be able to write a short passage or letter to describe your life and hobbies.
  1. Linguistic Knowledge

  • Understand and enhance the usage of sentence tones and the stress in phrase/sentence.

Description

    The course is designed for those who have completed the Intermediate Chinese 1 course or who have:

  • Completed more than 90 learning hours,
  • Known about 500 basic Chinese characters, 800 basic Chinese words,
  • Passed the HSK level 2 with high scores(≥240)

     Placement interview: required (except for continuing students with advancement approval from previous class)   

Learning Outcomes

   The course seeks to develop language learners’ integrated skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking at the intermediate level, with a special focus on vocabulary, Chinese characters learning, passage reading and practical writing in daily & business life.

  1. Practical Skills

Upon completion of this course, you will:

  • Be able to conduct conversations in Chinese on abundant and business topics,
  • Be able to talk about the direction, location, and ask about the direction & transport,
  • Be able to look for a job, take an interview, and talk about a past experience,
  • Be able to make an appointment and a date with someone,
  • Be able to book a hotel, a plane ticket, and online shopping in China,
  • Be able to talk about living conditions and pick someone up or see someone off,
  • Be able to write a short passage or letter to express complaint and suggestions.
  1. Linguistic Knowledge

Upon completion of this course, you will:

  • Master in pronouncing Chinese sentences in common speed, and use different tones to express someone’s emotion.
  • Further understand Chinese grammar (including the usage of emphasizing, sentences indicating existence, the exclamatory structure, some complex sentences construction, the progressive aspect of an action…etc.);
  • Have the ability to read argumentative articles and some newspaper & business reports written in commonly used vocabulary;
  • Learn approximately 400 new vocabulary items and phrases;
  • Learn the methods of constructing Chinese characters.
